How to host a business meeting with Indian guests

India, like any other country in the world, is unique and has its own peculiarities. That is why you have to practice proper etiquette when dealing with people from India, especially in business meetings. Of course, for you to do business in India, you must have and Indian visa. Well, not just any visa, but an Indian business visa.

It is important that you show a degree of knowledge on Indian etiquette to leave and impact on your guests if you are hosting a business meeting. Having an Indian business visa does not assure good business. You have to learn how to deal with the people in India, too. First of all, what do you do upon meeting or seeing your guests? Of course, handshakes and greetings are common in the West. However, it is a good idea to greet your Indian guests with a bow accompanied by placing your two hands together as if in prayer position. This gesture is known as the "Namaste". Also remember not to touch or shake the hand of an Indian woman if you greet them. Traditional Indians will refuse to shake the hands of a woman.

Now, let's say that you and all your guests are already settled. What are some of the things that you must remember? Minimize the use of your left hand, for it is considered unclean. Aside from the left hand, feet are also considered to be unclean, so do not point your footwear at anyone, since they will take it as an insult. Try to minimize the use of hand gestures, as well. Some gestures that Westerners use may be interpreted wrongly by Indians.

Next comes the part where you talk business. Now, doing business in India may be a bit challenging if you are not accustomed to the place or the people. You have to conduct your business dealing well and put your Indian business visa to good use. Remember that Indians understand the value of business cards. Exchanging cards upon introduction is a good idea. In business dealings, try to deal with the highest-ranking person present. Also take note that it is not a good idea to talk about business immediately. Try talking about other things like family, events, interests, or other things before talking business. In business dealings, you have to patient if you want to put that India visa to good use and for you to succeed in your ventures. It is common for Indians to disagree with you on certain matters. It will take a few meeting and a lot of politeness for you to get what you want with them. Indians do business a bit slowly in India. Lastly, it is important for hosts to give gifts to their guests as well as their guests' children.

An Indian business visa does not mean you are completely ready to do business. You have to know how to deal with the people of India. Once you know how to do it, your business dealings will be a lot easier and you will make the most of your Indian visa.
