About Indian Employment Visas

A job or employment India visa is issued to a particular person who has been employed or awarded a job contract by an Indian firm. Below are some important tips you should know before applying for an Employment Visa to India.

Terms and conditions

  • The applicant must have qualified for the particular post in the subject firm.
  • The applicant’s skill and knowledge is unique i.e. only a few Indians can qualify for the same post.
  • A job Visa to India must be issued from the applicant’s home origin or where he or she holds a permanent residence and has been there for a period not less than to years.
  • The Indian employer is responsible for any misconduct during the employee’s Indian Visa validity period.

  • Foreign athletes, actors, singers and other celebrities who are contracted for specific durations

Validity period

An individual from another country may be awarded an India visa of employment from the Indian visa embassy in that particular country. It is mostly valid for one year. Validity extensions can only be awarded by the India visa consultant at the MHA or the country of origin to a length of five years at most.

Support documents

  • A travel permit from the country of origin.
  • Copy of the contract agreement in cases of a job visa to India.
  • Proof of identity – a national ID card or valid passport.
  • Copies of educational certificates and expertise awards.

It is important to note that an Indian firm which has awarded a service contract to a foreign firm with no base in India can nominate an employee of the foreign firm for an employment India visa. However, an organization which has no affiliate, branch or subsidiary in India can not nominate a foreign firm employee for the Indian visa.
